What's Happening!
Brian Chan Stillwater Fly Fishing Seminar - Kelowna
It's hard to compete with the 2010 Winter Olympics Gold medal Hockey game, especially when it's Canada versus the United States, and your event is taking place in Kelowna, a hard-core hockey town, eh....
But we managed to do it. On Sunday, February 28, 2010, when the vast majority of Canadians were glued to their TV watching OUR SPORT, some 50 fly fishers from the Okanagan Region turned out for a day-long Stillwater Fly Fishing Seminar with Brian Chan, at the Olympia Taverna in Kelowna. With the TV tuned into to the game in the adjacent room, and a rising crescendo of background cheers from proud Canadians, we managed, only just, to focus on Brian&$39;s presentations on Stillwater fly fishing techniques. ![]()
He is, without a doubt, the most fascinating guy you could ever listen to if you want to know how to catch Rainbow Trout on the fly. His knowledge of the trout's behaviour, their food sources and feeding habits, the structure and character of the many lakes of the B.C. Interior, and his unrelenting passion for fly fishing makes his seminars the most informative events that an angler could hope for. It is no wonder that he is the guru of Stillwater fly fishing in British Columbia.
The event, which was organized by Prude's Fly Fishing Adventures and Trout Waters Fly & Tackle (the best fly shop in BC bar none), was filled to capacity by local anglers from the Lonely Loon Flyfisher Society of Kelowna, the Kalamalka Fly Fishers, and the Penticton Fly Fishers.
A special thank you must go to Mike Koutsantonis, and the staff of the Olympia Greek Taverna who hosted the event and provide us with a superb Greek lunch.
And even Brian was distracted from time to time by the roar of the hockey game. But two things we can say for sure from this day on:
